1943: The Battle of Midway is the direct continuation of 1942 (1984), developed and published by Capcom in 1987. You pilot a Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter in a vertical shoot 'em up set during WWII, with the Battle of Midway as the backdrop; this 'Mark II' version corresponds to a later revision of the original board. It stood out for its energy bar (instead of instant death) and for enormous naval bosses that took up much of the screen.
It's one of the most influential vertical shooters of the 80s and a pillar of Capcom's arcade identity before Street Fighter II. It's still played today for bullet-pattern design that remains elegant, and for being the link between 1942 and the entire saga that would follow (1944, 19XX).
