Gargoyle's Quest took Firebrand, the enemy gargoyle from the Ghosts'n Goblins saga, and gave him top billing in a world of demons narrated through a map, towns, and dialogue — something unusual for a 1990 Game Boy. The result blends vertical platforming, limited flight, and combat with the demanding level design that's a Capcom trademark.
It's one of the most respected titles in the handheld's early catalog: it laid the groundwork for the dark action-adventure subgenre that would go on to inspire other games years later, and it still plays well today thanks to tight design and a mood that steers away from the era's usual childlike tone.
