Kirby's Dream Land introduced the world to Kirby, the pink creature able to inhale enemies and float across the screen, in a platformer designed by HAL Laboratory under the direction of a young Masahiro Sakurai. Its accessible difficulty and friendly design made it an instant hit and the founding stone of an entire saga. More than three decades later, it's still one of the best entry points into Game Boy: short, clever, and carrying the charisma that would go on to make Kirby the star of dozens of later games across every Nintendo platform.
