18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker started life as a Sega AM2 arcade cabinet in 1999, with Dreamcast getting the home conversion a year later, and it arrived on GameCube in 2002 courtesy of Acclaim Entertainment, by then with Sega no longer making its own consoles. The pitch is pure arcade formula: drive enormous trucks across US highways, dodging traffic against the clock, with that sense of weight and speed that characterizes Sega's driving games of the era. It's not a truck-driving simulation but a reflex-based arcade racer, and that's its charm: short runs, a high score as the goal, and that arcade-hall feel brought into the living room, complete with a two-truck co-op mode.
