Altered Beast was the Mega Drive's launch title — and original pack-in — in several markets, starring a Roman centurion who transforms into different beasts to rescue Zeus's daughter from the underworld. Its muscular aesthetic and scaling effects helped sell the console's technical muscle right out of the gate.
