Developed by Dimps -specialists in 2D fighting games- and published by Bandai Namco, it adapts the Dark Tournament arc from Yoshihiro Togashi's manga and anime with a large roster, close to sixty characters, including fan-favorite side characters like Touya and Suzaku. It arrived on PS2 as a conversion of a Japanese arcade version released a year earlier.
Like much of the anime fighting game adaptations of the era, it stayed within the Japanese circuit, never crossing its borders despite the affection the series generated among Western fans.
