HAL signed off on this structural rarity: every space fortress is approached first by flight, dodging defenses in side-scrolling action, and then from the inside, on foot with a jetpack, hunting for the reactor to blow it up from within. Escaping before the explosion is the secret third act. Science fiction with a surprisingly modern design.
