Contra - Shattered Soldier revived the franchise after years of absence, keeping the heart of the saga - shooting nonstop, dodging impossible waves of projectiles, and memorizing patterns - but with a visual leap to 3D that modernized the presentation without losing the original's frantic pace. Konami bet heavily on extreme difficulty as a defining trait.
Its level and boss design earned the respect of longtime fans, who consider it one of the series' best modern entries, able to honor the late-80s arcade legacy without feeling anachronistic on PS2.
This system doesn't run in the browser yet (Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2 and Xbox are on the way as web emulation matures). The dossier, media and community are already all yours.
