Alien Syndrome reached European computers in 1988 as a conversion of Sega's 1987 arcade game: the player controls Ricky or Mary, a pair of soldiers who must make their way through eight-direction scrolling levels to rescue comrades held captive by the aliens, with a time bomb activated from the start of each stage. The Atari ST version was developed by Softek International. Like so many arcade conversions of the time, its interest today lies in comparing how well they survived the leap from the arcade to the home: the tension of the clock and the level design still work as a textbook run and gun.
