Gauntlet: The Third Encounter arrived in 1990, developed by Epyx and published by Atari Corporation: it revives the formula of the Gauntlet arcade game, with warriors, wizards, elves, and dwarves cutting through dungeons crawling with monster generators, all while managing constantly draining health and hunting for keys to move forward. Squeezing it onto the Lynx's single screen, without the original arcade's scrolling, forced a redesign of much of the level layout. It remains one of the most ambitious conversions in the Lynx's early library, bringing Gauntlet's cooperative dungeon-crawling essence to a portable format mostly built for solo play.
