"10 voor Taal" brings to the handheld the format of the identically named Dutch TV show, a weekly contest devoted to the puzzles of the Dutch language: spelling, synonyms, set phrases, and language trivia. The Nintendo DS version turns those rounds into a string of minigames where the touch screen is used to write answers and solve riddles against the clock, in line with the many European TV-show adaptations that filled the console's catalog.
It's a piece made strictly for a Dutch-speaking audience with little reach beyond the Netherlands, so today it's more interesting as a catalog curiosity than as a playable experience. It does, however, illustrate a real phenomenon of the DS era: the console worked as the perfect platform for local entertainment franchises that never sought to cross borders.
