Asphalt - Urban GT brought to Nintendo's handheld the arcade street-racing formula Gameloft had been polishing on mobile phones, with urban circuits, licensed cars, and handling built for immediacy rather than simulation. The touch screen was used for menus and the occasional driving shortcut, but the heart of the game remained frictionless speed.
It didn't get the recognition of its home-console versions, but for anyone looking for a light racing arcade on DS it did the job well, also laying the groundwork for what Gameloft would go on to repeat successfully in the fledgling mobile-gaming industry.
