The Backyard Sports franchise has, since the nineties, put a cast of neighborhood kids to play simplified, fun versions of different sports, built explicitly for a young audience just getting into sports video games. "Rookie Rush" continues that formula on Nintendo DS.
It doesn't aim to compete with the console's "serious" sports simulations, but to offer a friendly, frictionless entry point into the genre. Within its category, it's a well-executed product for its target audience.
