It's part of the long-running farm simulation series created by Marvelous, known in Japan as Bokujou Monogatari and historically in the West as Harvest Moon, with the usual formula of tilling the land, raising animals, and building bonds with the town's inhabitants.
It was released only in Japan, at a time when the brand hadn't yet split between different western publishers; for followers of the series it's one more entry within a formula that Nintendo's handheld comfortably accommodated.
