Masahiro Sakurai, who had created Kirby on Game Boy at just 21 years old, brought him to NES in 1993, when the SNES already reigned supreme, and squeezed the console for parallax scrolling and pseudo-rotations that shouldn't have been possible. This is where the copy-ability mechanic that defines the series was born. Kirby's name honors John Kirby, the lawyer who saved Nintendo in Universal's King Kong lawsuit.
