Like much of the shogi lineup that filled out PSP's Japanese catalog, AI Shogi is training software rather than a narrative game: a board, official rules, and an AI engine for practicing openings and endgames. There's no story or characters to piece together, just the mechanics of Japanese chess brought to the handheld.
Its appeal today is almost purely utilitarian, for anyone who wants to revisit shogi in its mid-2000s digital form, in a market that at the time offered several similar alternatives.
