When Nintendo asked Miyamoto for prerendered graphics in the Donkey Kong Country style, his team answered with the opposite: a world hand-drawn in crayon and watercolor that has aged better than any render ever could. Yoshi carries Baby Mario around while lobbing eggs with wonderfully tuned physics, and the cartridge hides a Super FX 2 chip for the giant bosses and rotation effects. Few platformers have ever paired such visual tenderness with such surgical design.
