Checkered Flag has two lives within the Atari universe. The first, published by Atari Corporation in 1991, brought first-person single-seater racing to the Lynx screen. The second, completely different in technology, is the 1994 version developed by British studio Rebellion Developments for the Jaguar, with textured-polygon tracks aiming to flex graphical muscle in the 64-bit console's first months on the market. Both share the name and genre, but belong to different hardware generations: the Lynx version bets on speed on a small screen, the Jaguar version on showing off what the graphics processor of the machine, freshly launched onto the market, was capable of.
