Developed by Project Aces and published by Namco in 2004, Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War narrates a war between fictional nations through the letters of a rookie pilot, with an orchestral score that became a genre benchmark. It deepened the squadron system introduced in the series, giving tactical weight to choosing wingmen.
Along with Zero, it remains one of Ace Combat's high points: arcade aviation with cinematic spectacle that's scarce in today's market, and a good reason to revisit the console.
