Chi-Toitsu takes its name from one of the classic mahjong hands -the seven-pairs one- and builds around it a tabletop arcade game meant for the usual Japanese audience of these machines, very popular in the country's arcades during the 80s and 90s. Like much of this subgenre, it mixed traditional rules with progression layers of its own, typical of the arcade format. It's representative of a huge segment of the Japanese market that rarely crossed borders.
