Dark Seal, published by Data East in 1990 (also known as Gate of Doom in some regions), puts a group of adventurers -warrior, mage, elf, dwarf- through top-down dungeons defeating hordes of monsters, in a formula that draws directly from Gauntlet but with sharper graphics and special attacks unique to each class. It's one of the best exponents of cooperative fantasy hack-and-slash in arcades, still appreciated today by those looking for that mix of fast action and classic RPG aesthetic that characterized the genre in the late 80s and early 90s.
