Dungfong Zi Zyu II continues a series of mahjong games of Chinese or Hong Kong origin, a genre that had enormous production in that region during the 90s with multiple variants of rules and visual themes. Like much of its contemporaries, it combines traditional mahjong rules with arcade-style progression layers. It's representative of an Asian market segment little documented in the West but huge in volume, with dozens of mahjong titles produced almost on an assembly line to satisfy a local audience very loyal to the genre.
