Pirate Pete is, in essence, Taito's Jungle King with the jungle setting and the Tarzan-like protagonist replaced by a pirate theme, after the company managing the Tarzan rights objected to the original character's resemblance to Edgar Rice Burroughs' creation. Taito relaunched it under this new disguise in November 1982. It's an interesting case study in how the early-80s arcade industry resolved copyright conflicts: instead of pulling the game, it simply redressed it with a different theme and put it back into circulation.
