Castle Crisis picks up the formula of the 1980 arcade game Warlords: each player protects a castle in a corner of the screen using a rotating shield to send fireballs back toward rivals, until someone's walls come down. The version documented in this entry is the work of programmer Bryan Edewaard, who developed it independently for Atari's 8-bit computers and the 5200, aiming to imitate the original arcade experience as faithfully as possible. Like most homebrews inspired by arcade classics, its greatest merit is faithfulness: it recreates, without frills, that simple and tense multiplayer game that made Warlords popular four decades ago.
