Fatal Run, developed by Sculptured Software and published directly by Atari in 1990, has the player driving an armored vehicle across a post-apocalyptic wasteland, delivering a radiation vaccine while destroying hostile cars and dodging obstacles along the way. At 32 kilobytes of data, it's the largest cartridge ever produced for the 2600, a technical feat on a console designed more than a decade earlier. Alongside Klax, it was one of the last titles Atari itself released for the 2600, an almost symbolic close to the cycle: the company squeezing to the technical limit a piece of hardware that had already been on the market for eleven years.
