Iron Soldier came out in 1994, developed by Eclipse Software Design and published by Atari Corporation: the player pilots a giant combat robot through missions that mix installation defense, target destruction, and direct clashes against enemy mechs, all from a first-person cockpit complete with its own instrument panel. Its polygonal graphics engine was, at the time, one of the Jaguar's best technical calling cards. It earned a solid reputation among the console's few first-person war-sim titles, solid enough to spawn a sequel and to remain, decades later, one of the most recommended games for anyone approaching the system for the first time.
