In the arcade, "Spy Hunter" combined driving and vehicular combat with unusual freedom: machine guns, oil slicks to make pursuers skid, missiles, and even the ability to turn the car into a speedboat upon reaching water, all set to an electronic rendition of the James Bond theme. The Atari 2600 conversion trims that ambition down to what 1977 hardware could offer, arriving well into the console's commercial life.
It's one more example of how even the most ambitious mid-80s arcade games eventually found, sooner or later, their scaled-down version for the 2600 catalog.
