All-Star Baseball 2002 continues the baseball series Acclaim had been refining since the late 90s, with a full MLB and players' union license, recognizable stadiums, and a batting and pitching system built for simulation rather than arcade play. It was among the first real-licensed sports games to appear in GameCube's launch catalog. Today it works as a faithful snapshot of MLB baseball for the 2001 season, with the names and rosters of that moment: a period sports document more than a game worth returning to for its gameplay.
