California Speed continues the arcade racing formula Midway launched with the Cruis'n series: circuits through California roads, cars with cartoonish proportions, and a sense of speed that prioritizes immediate fun over any pretense of simulation.
It's a direct port of its arcade version, made for short, competitive matches rather than an extensive campaign, and it occupies the same niche as so many other arcade racing games that populated the console during its second half of life.
