Developed for DS as part of Activision's Guitar Hero family, Band Hero brings the rhythm-with-peripheral formula to a broader pop and radio-rock repertoire than usual for the series, adding the ability to sing in addition to playing an instrument. The handheld version adapts that dynamic to the console's more limited format, compared to home editions with full physical instruments.
It arrived at a moment of saturation for the music-peripheral genre, when the Guitar Hero and Rock Band trend was already showing signs of commercial fatigue; on DS it works as a more modest but equally accessible version of that formula.
