Developed by Vanpool -the studio behind Sword of Mana and Ni no Kuni: Shikkoku no Madoushi- and published by Nintendo in 2008 exclusively for Japan, Blazer Drive combines futuristic vehicle racing with a system of physical collectible cards inserted into the console to unlock cars and upgrades, an uncommon idea in the handheld's catalog.
Its limited distribution and its mechanic tied to physical cards made it a rarity even in its own market, today sought by collectors more for its singularity than for any impact it had at the time.
