Biomotor Unitron, developed by Yumekobo and published by SNK in 1999, was the first RPG on Neo Geo Pocket Color, and it shares more DNA than expected with Pokémon: players gather resources, upgrade gear, and explore four monster-filled dungeons on the way to becoming a champion. The heart of the game, though, is customizing nearly every part of the Unitron, the combat robot protagonist, before each run. It's compact —completed in a few hours— but was well received at the time, and got a second life in 2022 with a port to Nintendo Switch.
