Golden Axe (1989) has three warriors -Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, and Gilius Thunderhead- travel a fantasy realm striking down enemies with swords, axes, and spells, and riding enemy dragons and beasts to attack with extra power. It's one of the most influential beat 'em ups in history, with art and sound design still cited as a reference; essential for any serious survey of the genre.
