Juuouki is the Japanese name for Altered Beast, Sega's 1988 arcade game in which a warrior resurrected by Zeus must rescue his daughter by absorbing the power of animal spirits to transform into a wolf, dragon, bear, or other beasts to face hordes of the undead. NEC Avenue brought it to the PC Engine in 1989, in both HuCard and CD-ROM² versions, adapting the melee combat and transformations of Sega's original arcade game to its main rival's console. It's an uncommon case of a Sega title officially published for NEC's hardware, and today it interests both Altered Beast fans wanting to compare versions and PC Engine collectors documenting these uncommon crossovers between rival companies of the era.
