Gunpey EX revives the original puzzle designed by Gunpei Yokoi for the first WonderSwan -his last piece of work before his death in 1997- and relaunches it in a color version for WonderSwan Color in December 2000, timed to coincide with the console's launch. The mechanic has you sliding line fragments within a grid to form an unbroken path from one edge of the board to the other, now with pieces in different colors that award bonus points when they connect with each other. The series name is itself a tribute: Gunpey is a direct nod to Yokoi, the designer behind the Game Boy and the WonderSwan itself, and this EX version became a way of honoring his legacy at the launch of the very machine he had envisioned before his death.
