Neutopia is the action-adventure Hudson Soft released for the PC Engine in November 1989, widely regarded as an almost point-for-point copy of The Legend of Zelda: the hero, Jazeta, must recover eight medallions, defeat the demon Dirth, and rescue Princess Aurora while roaming an open world dotted with dungeons. It reached North America as a TurboGrafx-16 title in April 1990.
Critics of the time recognized, with some surprise, that Neutopia actually improved on a few details from Nintendo's original: the compass points to the nearest dungeon on the overworld map, and once inside, it points straight to the boss, sparing players the genre's usual disorientation. It remains, to this day, one of the most beloved entries in the TurboGrafx-16 library outside Japan.
