4x4 Evo 2 continued the formula that had made noise in the previous generation: off-road racing with trucks and SUVs, muddy tracks, and handling closer to festive arcade than simulation. Terminal Reality, the studio behind it, had already been polishing its own graphics engines, and here it put them to work on a game built for quick sessions and couch multiplayer.
In PS2's European catalog it worked as a lighter alternative to the more serious rally series of the moment. It's not a game remembered for revolutionizing anything, but it fills the comfort-food role of the genre: hop in, get muddy, and walk away smiling.
