Ace Combat - Distant Thunder is the name Namco used to release Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies in Europe, the title that relaunched the series on PS2 after the generational jump and laid the narrative and gameplay foundations the saga would repeat for years: missions structured as a fictional war, rival squadrons with names of their own, and arcade handling that prioritizes spectacle over flight realism.
More than twenty years later, it remains one of the most recommendable entry points into Ace Combat: the staging of its air battles has aged better than almost any other arcade simulator of its time.
