Air was born as a Key visual novel for PC in 2000, and this 2005 PS2 version adapts that story into its all-ages variant, without the explicit scenes of the original edition. Its chapter structure and melancholic tone marked a generation of Japanese players and laid the groundwork for the studio's genre of emotional dramas.
For anyone approaching it today without knowing the language it's hard to access, but its reputation as a foundational piece of the genre remains intact among those who follow Key's output.
