Clover Studio painted a mythological Japan in sumi-e ink: Amaterasu, the wolf goddess, restores nature by drawing with a celestial brush right across the screen itself. It won Game of the Year awards while selling so poorly that it made the Guinness Book as the least commercially successful GOTY winner ever. Capcom shut Clover down months later; PlatinumGames rose from its ashes. The game itself, meanwhile, earned its own kind of immortality.
