Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, it combines acrobatic platforming -running along walls, jumping between columns, hanging from ledges- with a combat system that incorporates the Dagger of Time, able to rewind seconds to correct mistakes, a mechanic that became a signature feature of the whole trilogy. Its art direction, inspired by the mythical Persia of One Thousand and One Nights, and its narration by an unreliable narrator raised the storytelling bar for the action-adventure genre.
For much of the critical community, it's one of the best third-person platforming and action games of the entire generation: a display of movement fluidity still studied today as a design reference.
