Rygar arrived on the Lynx in 1990, developed by NuFX and published by Atari Corporation, bringing back Tecmo's arcade and NES protagonist: armed with the Diskarmor, a disc-shaped weapon on a chain, the player travels through a semi-open world defeating mythological creatures and seeking upgrades that unlock previously blocked areas. That progression structure tied to gear, rather than simple linear advancement, set it apart from much of the Lynx catalog's pure action. It's one of the handheld's best-regarded licensed conversions, thanks to successfully carrying over both the combat pace and the sense of gradual exploration that had made the original Rygar popular.
