Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle is the platformer Coleco developed and published in 1982 for ColecoVision and Atari 2600, based on The Smurfs animated series: the player guides a Smurf from the village to Gargamel's castle, crossing a forest and a cave, jumping over fences and stalagmites with pinpoint precision, since any missed jump means instant death, while an energy bar drains as time passes.
Critics of the time treated it with particular fondness in its ColecoVision version, which some even rated at the top mark for both gameplay and graphics, while the Atari 2600 version was considered "somewhat less elegant" but equally solid. It's one of the best-remembered Smurfs licenses of the entire 8-bit era.
