Championship Surfer is the work of Krome Studios, the Brisbane company that a couple of years later would become known for Ty the Tasmanian Tiger; here they took on extreme surfing, a sport rarely explored in video games, with input from Australian surfer Mark Richardson to design the physics of the boards and waves.
It was published by Mattel Interactive in the United States and GAME Studios in Europe, at a moment when extreme sports were riding high thanks to the Tony Hawk phenomenon. It didn't reach that level of impact, but it's an interesting experiment within Dreamcast's sports catalog.
