2020 Super Baseball arrived in 1991 courtesy of Data East as an evolution of its Tommy Lasorda Baseball, with fictional teams and players set in a near future, flashy uniforms, and exaggerated stats, even though the game underneath follows real baseball rules. It was successfully ported to the Mega Drive/Genesis, the version many remember it by more than its arcade origin.
For genre fans, it remains one of the most solid baseball offerings of the 16-bit arcade era: direct controls, a good feel for both batting and pitching, and that 80s-90s "sport of the future" flair that sets it apart from the more serious simulators of the time.
