'88 Games is Konami's answer to the mid-80s Olympic games boom, with events like pole vault, archery, and weightlifting all resolved through trackball spinning and raw reflexes. It inherits Track & Field's DNA but adds a wider spread of disciplines and that competitive weekend-tournament energy that defined the arcade floor. Today it works mostly as a piece of physical nostalgia: the fun was in wrecking your wrist against the player next to you, something that's lost without the original cabinet but that explains why these games packed arcades in the era before 16-bit consoles took over.
