Midway released it in 1995, applying the same recipe that made NBA Jam famous to hockey: two-on-two matches, digitized sprites of wildly out-of-proportion players, checks that throw sparks, and an announcer screaming over every play. The result prioritizes instant readability and spectacle over any pretense of sports simulation.
It never reached the popularity of its basketball or football cousins, but it shares that same loud mid-90s arcade energy: short, violent matches built to be played standing up, coin in hand, against a friend.
