Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars is the 1986 arcade game that introduced the character Sega would try to establish as its answer to Mario in the following generation. It's an action platformer with precise jumps and enemies resolved with punches, still far from the adventure tone the series would take on the Master System, but already with the visual identity that would later become familiar. It's interesting today as the starting point of one of Sega's most peculiar mascots: the one the company kept polishing, and eventually abandoned, in its search for an icon of its own.
