Avengers in Galactic Storm is a 1995 fighting game developed and published by Data East, set in the cosmic Marvel comics arc Operation: Galactic Storm, with eight Avengers facing off against the Kree. Its most remembered contribution was incorporating summonable support characters during combat — what's known today as "helpers" or "strikers" — an idea that would soon become standard in the genre. It was overshadowed by Capcom's Marvel-licensed fighting games, more polished and better remembered, but it's key to understanding where the assist-character system came from, one Capcom would go on to popularize with Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter.
