Big Run recreates the demands of the Paris-Dakar rally: shifting terrain, hostile weather conditions, and a sense of speed and risk that set it apart from the more generic closed-circuit racing games. It was among the first to bring that raid format to arcades.
It had sequels that deepened the formula, but this entry is usually cited as the pioneer of the off-road rally subgenre in arcades, a niche other companies later explored with less personality.
